Reports: Arsenal in talks for January reinforcements

More firepower

Arsenal fans are expecting an acid test today as they gauge their progress over the last 6 months against true title contenders on their own patch.

But many feel that Arsenal are still short in vital areas and need to strengthen neglected departments before they can seriously challenge.

If I was the Arsenal boss I would have got rid of Ozil and brought Cesc in this summer – regardless of cost. I’d have offered crazy money for Petr Cech and signed another proper centre back like Eliaquim Mangala. And I would have spent the requisite cash on Radamel Falcao – he would surely have been tempted by London and The Champions League.

Easier said than done of course. But Arsenal need top additions, not more middle of the road pros, if they really want to smash their glass ceiling. Two more have been linked with moves today. The Daily Mail says:

ARSENAL have held talks with Marseille and Juventus over signing respective strikers Andre Pierre Gignac and Sebastian Giovinco.

Gignac has scored 12 goals in just 9 games this season and looks a decent player. But possibly not one to make the difference with a moment of magic out of nothing in a Champions League quarter final.

We’ve spoken about Giovinco in relation to Arsenal in the past. He’s a really interesting player, who’s quick, jinky and loves to dribble and take on opponents. But we don;t need to tall you that Arsenal have loads of these already. If Arsene buys, what is essentially yet another attacking midfielder then we give up….

Let’s see Gignac in action. Arsenal fans: keen on either?

I take it we don’t need a centre back & a defensive midfielder, may be we could turn a striker or two into what we really need, when the afternoon as finished may be we will have a clue.
