Arsenal remain bookie favourites to sign Manchester United target

When you look at the different departments of Arsenal’s squad you have to say that the midfield is the strongest. While the defence has been excellent this year you could certainly add one or 2 to that list. And the forward line definitely looks as if it could do with reinforcement.

Which makes it all the more strange that most of the players that Arsenal have been linked with over the last couple of months are midfielders – specifically, attacking midfielders.

With so many good attacking midfielders on their books it’s hard to imagine where Arsenal would squeeze another one in. Nevertheless, names like Bender, Reus and Gundogan have, at different times been mentioned as Arsenal’s next big signing.

We always say that there is rarely smoke without fire. Arsene Wenger may well look to bring in another creator to complement players like Cazorla, Ramsey and Wilshere. For the benefits of this argument, we will categorise Mesut Ozil as a number 10, and therefore a forward.

One of the very best creative midfielders in the world was linked with Manchester United throughout the summer. But, it is worth noting that bookmaker Paddy Power have Arsenal as the most likely destination for their old star Cesc Fabregas, if he does make a permanent move elsewhere. At odds of 8/11 Arsenal are well clear in the field of potential suitors should the seemingly unsettled Spaniard become available.

Just last month Fabregas told reporters that he didn’t think he was an automatic choice for the new boss.

“I know the starting XI that Tata has in mind and I’m not part of it,”

He has also stated several times that he retains a soft spot for Arsenal and that he may one day return to the club. He has never seemed publicly keen on the much mooted transfer to Manchester United.

Arsenal fans – do you need Fabregas right now and would you welcome his return?
