All the talk for the last five or six days has been about Alvaro Morata joining Arsenal on loan from Real Madrid until the end of the season.

Many news publications have gone with that story today, as reports in Spain suggest that a deal for the player has all but been done. Tottenham thought they might be able to tie him down to a loan deal in the summer, but that never materialised. Considering their paucity of goals this season they will be particularly disappointed about losing out to Arsenal on this one – if the deal does transpire.

This will potentially strengthen Arsenal in the short-term. But that doesn’t mean that they won’t still look for another striker in the January window – if Arsene Wenger can make a permanent signing of top-quality he will of course look to do so.

Another name that has done the rounds in relation to Arsenal recently is that of Edinson Cavani. In a very interesting turn of events, Arsenal have now become favourites with Skybet to sign the player before the end of the January transfer window. As you would expect, the Uruguay striker has been on fire since he joined Paris St Germain in the summer, scoring 10 goals in 14 appearances.

But like Radamel Falcao at Monaco there are rumours of unrest with the French striker. If Arsenal could sign this player surely they would try to do so. But his value won’t have gone down much since his massive transfer in the summer – so Arsenal would have to smash their, recently smashed, transfer record to get him in.

Nevertheless Skybet have Arsenal as favourites at 5/1 to sign Cavani in January.

Let’s see the sublime striker in action. Arsenal fans, would the the signing of Cavani represent the absolute best-case scenario?
