Latin Class

Arsenal reportedly want to sign 27 year old Federico Fazio from Sevilla. The club are apparently interested in the experienced Argentinian centre back who could provide strength in depth according to The Guardian.

Fazio joined Sevilla in 2007 from Argentinian side Ferro Carril Oeste where he made 20 appearances for the reserve side before breaking into the senior side. Since then he has become a regular in the side, making 179 appearances in all competitions.

The player also has two full international caps for Argentina, although he is not part of the World Cup squad that is currently in Brazil.

The news that Arsenal are still in the hunt for experienced players will be welcome news to fans after it emerged yesterday that the club are not in negotiations to sign Mario Balotelli.

With Arsene Wenger already having turned down a chance to re-sign Cesc Fabregas many are now wondering if there will be any big business done in the summer.

Arsenal are definitely in need of additional numbers at the back. Bacary Sagna has already left the club for Manchester City and Arsene Wenger is apparently willing to let club captain Thomas Vermaelen leave to Manchester United for £12 million.

Without further investment it is possible Arsenal could begin pre-season training with only two centre backs in Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny and a lone right back in the form of Carl Jenkinson. This might explain why the North London club have been linked with a number of defenders over the transfer window.

Most prominently, reports have suggested The Gunners are close to signing Serge Aurier from Toulouse for around £8 million. With Ivory Coast now out of The World Cup following their elimination in the group stages, a deal for Aurier might well happen in the next few days. Another recent report linked the club with Chelsea centre back Branislav Ivanovic.

Let’s see him in action. Arsenal fans: decent solution?
