Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has said that he won’t sign any more strikers this summer.

But if one that he really liked were to become available then perhaps his thoughts would suddenly change.

Because there is a player that Arsenal seem to have been linked with for time immemorial who could well become surplus to requirements this summer.

With Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo being joined by James Rodriguez this summer you would have thought that Karim Benzema’s chances of regular starting berth would be somewhat diminished. Rodriguez could of course play behind Benzema with Ronnie and Bale either side.

But there have also been strong rumours that Real Madrid will return to Monaco for the sensational Radamel Falcao. If this were to happen it’s hard to imagine Benzema sticking about. Because he’s not the sort of player who is going to be happy sitting on the bench.

If Falcao does join Real Madrid then surely Wenger would look into bringing the Frenchman to Arsenal.

This is perhaps reflected in the bookmaker odds. SkyBet have Arsenal as clear favourites, at 7/4, to sign Benzema if he does leave his club in this window.

You do feel that if Arsenal could count on the services of this Frenchman they would gain the upper hand in the elite fixtures that they have struggled in over the last few years.

Benzema is the type of player who can make a difference in the tightest games and Arsenal could surely benefit form his services.

Let’s see the maestro in action. Arsenal fans: is Benzema a player that you would like to see at The Emirates?

Benzema to Arsenal means Giroud will leave, and Wenger likes Giroud and is offering a new contract. Supports can’t seem to stand the target man, but Arsene Wenger is the one who matters.

Benzema is better than Giroud, no doubt, but strikers who are battling for minutes for club and country on the same team is a recipe for trouble. Giroud was benched in favor of Benzema, for all the good it did, and if that happened at Arsenal it would further erode Giroud’s chances for the French.

The Benzema rumors won’t die, but it is hard to imagine them beocming real and if they did, it is doubtful Arsenal supporters would get the fairy tale ending they’re imagining.

I disagree, Giroud plays much better with another striker, look at him in the FA cup. The lone striker idea just doesn’t always work, if the midfield is under pressure, they just become isolated. You have to be able to adapt to a game, that’s why we need another striker.
