Are Manchester United signing Rooney’s double?

Is it just us or does Wayne Rooney look a bit like Juan Mata without as much hair? The Spaniard is closing in on a deal with Manchester United in a move which will surely be welcomed by the England star.

Rooney nearly left the club in 2010 citing a lack of investment in the squad as his main motive for wanting a transfer. Until recently that investment wasn’t forthcoming. But in the last few months, Manchester United have bought Marouane Fellaini for big money, and look set to increase their spend with Juan Mata.

Various reports today suggest that the January spend won’t stop there for Manchester United, with the club being linked to a host of other high profile names.

Wayne Rooney will be over the moon with the signing of Juan Mata if the deal does indeed go ahead. This guy is world class and Rooney knows it. The interplay between these two could be something really beautiful to behold in the years ahead. Manchester United have lacked creativity in the middle of the park – especially since the retirement of the majestic Paul Scholes – and this could well be the answer.

We think that Rooney and Mata could form a superb partnership for Manchester United. We hope that David Moyes will put Mata in central midfield to provide the ammunition for Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney up front. The only problem is that it might be difficult to tell apart from time to time.
