Are Manchester United going French?

Manchester United will undoubtedly look to strengthen this summer, whatever the outcome of The Premier League campaign. While most Manchester United fans want SAF to invest in the midfield and more attacking areas of the side, question marks continue to be raised about the strength of the defence going forward.

In an interview with Canal Plus, Montpellier captain Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa has expressed his desire to play for Manchester United. A versatile defender who can play anywhere across the back, Yanga-Mbiwa has been a mainstay in the side for over 4 years and has been instrumental in Montpellier’s surprising title charge in Ligue 1 this season.

At 22 he is yet to break into the France senior side but has 8 caps for the U-21s and looks set for a regular place in the international first team over the coming years. He was born in Bangui, Africa, but has spent most of his life in France. Ferguson is a master at identifying top defenders and he may well like what he sees in Yanga-Mbiwa. The player himself is  quoted as saying:

‘Playing for Manchester United would give great satisfaction and it would mean a dream could become a reality ‘

So, do Manchester United need more defenders or should they be using their budget to improve other parts of the team? Have your say.
