Sign him up

It is becoming ever more clear that Manchester United probably won’t be using too many wingers over the next couple of years.

Of course there may be times when Louis van Gaal reverts to a 4-3-3 formation. But, most of the time, it looks as if it’s going to be a 3-5-2 with wing backs.

It’s an exciting formation which suits Manchester United because they do currently have a paucity of quality wide men.

With this in mind it may seem unwise to suggest that Manchester United sign a winger. But when a player of this quality comes along you have to take a second look.

Reports in The Express suggest that Marco Reus has a release clause of just £20m – much lower than earlier thought.

He’ll only cost £20m! Man Utd and Liverpool target Marco Reus’ release clause revealed

With the player seemingly unsure about where his future lies, Manchester United will be doing fantastic business if they activate that clause. Because, while the player is nominally a winger he can play anywhere across the front line or in the hole at number 10.

You will seldom see a player with two better feet than Marco Reus. He’s not exactly what you would describe as a flair player but instead he uses his skill and pace with great efficiency.

We think that, within a couple of years, he’s going to be one of the very best players in Europe. He’s not only a great distributer of the ball but also scores loads of goals and cuts through defences like a knife through butter.

£20 million could hardly be described as a small amount of cash. But to get a player of this quality for that amount of cash, in the current market, would be nothing short of miraculous – Reus is that good.

So if we were holding the purse strings at Manchester United we would most certainly make a bid for this lad.

Let’s take a look at him in action. Manchester United fans should Reus be a priority signing?

The release clause can’t be activated until the summer of 2015. Reus is running his contract down until then. He probably knows exactly where he is going and my guess would be Bayern Munich.
