Manchester United: Make or break time for €59.2m transfer as Louis van Gaal starts to assess other targets?

Get on with it!

We feel that if we have to cover this story for too much longer we will actually be…..oh we have just been sick. There you go.

But Manchester United are becoming synonymous with drawn out summer transfers. A couple of years ago we had Sniejder. Last year it was the toe-curlingly protracted Fabregas saga. And this time around it is of course Arturo Vidal to Manchester United.

LvG griped the other day about the fact that, as soon as he mentions a player, his value goes up.

“I can not talk about players in the media. The price goes up,”

That’s a good point. But Manchester United are hardly going to get top value in the market with Ed Woodward boldly banging on about how much cash the club has.

59.2m Euros is the latest mooted figure for Vidal’s signature. Is he worth that money? In today’s market, absolutely. This is a midfield warrior, first to every tackle, who also scores at a ratio of 1 in 3 for Juventus – not a bad record even for a striker.

The main problem is apparently the potentially dodgy knee. The Daily Mail quotes The Chile national team manager who reckons the deal is being held up over fitness concerns.

‘I know that the main problem in Vidal’s $80m (59.2m Euros) transfer from Juventus to Manchester United is Louis van Gaal’s doubt over the improvement of Arturo’s knee,’ Sampaoli told the Chilean publication.

It is of course understandable that Manchester United wouldn’t want to make a huge outlay unless they knew that the player they were getting was in absolutely top-notch condition. They have already been burnt by the signing of Owen Hargreaves who hardly made a Manchester United appearance in his 4 years at the club, due to long term problems.

But surely a decision can be made pretty quickly about this sort of thing. Do a proper medical and make a judgement. If Vidal has a dodgy knee move on – perhaps wait for Strootman.

Indeed, reports on Thursday state that Manchester United are in talk for Nigel De Jong.

Either way, it would be great if Manchester United could put the fans out of their misery one way or another now, instead of making them suffer through August.

Let’s see some more Vidal. Manchester United fans: time to move on?
