Great potential buy

Despite doing some big business already Manchester United fans are hopeful of more exciting signings this summer. But you wouldn’t necessarily say that central defenders are ‘exciting’ acquisitions.

Nevertheless they are just as important, if not more so, to Manchester United right now than flair players.

With the loss of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic this summer Manchester United need a man of authority in the centre of that defence.

Jonny Evans will be hopeful of putting in one of his better seasons this year – he’s still a quality player – but if Manchester United can snare Mats Hummels then they’ll have a real leader at the back.

The Metro reports:

Manchester United ‘beat Barcelona to signing of Borussia Dortmund’s Mats Hummels’

Daily newspaper Sport are today reporting that Barca have conceded defeat in their attempts to sign the German international, with the player set for a move to Old Trafford.

The £16m deal is expected to be completed this week, with Dortmund having already moved to replace Hummels by signing Matthias Ginter from Freiburg.

Still only 25 but now a German international and one of the most important players in the national side.

Like Rio he’s a player who likes to bring the ball out of defence instead of humping it up the park when under pressure. Hummels has great feat, loves a long, quarter-back style pass and will suit Manchester United down to the ground.

This one has been a persistent rumour for the last couple of months so you imagine there is some real substance to it. Guardian journalist also Jamie Jackson spoke on talksport over the weekend about how the player fancies a move to the club. to add further fuel to the fire.

Let’s see him in action. Manchester United fans is there anything not to like about this potential signing?
