Manchester United have opened talks with World Cup wizard – report

Louis-van-gaal2

Magician alert

Louis van Gaal pointed out, during his majestic first press conference as Manchester United manager, that the signings of Ander Herrera had already been in the pipeline before he joined the club.

He said that he gave Manchester United his blessing for the transfers because they were both good players.

But we have yet to see exactly who he wants to bring in. Who are Louis’s objets desire?

soccersweep has assumed for weeks that, after such a good performance at The World Cup, Manchester United would be in for at least a couple of Holland stars this summer.

Daryl Janmaat went to Newcastle and Bruno Martins Indi has moved to Porto. We thought Manchester United might pursue the latter.

But the real stand out performers in that defence were Stefan de Vrij and Daley Blind. And Blind is the subject of speculation today about a transfer to Manchester United. The Metro says:

Manchester United have opened talks with Ajax over a deal for Dutch utility man Daley Blind.

Blind is valued at about £20million but United will hope to get him for less.

We still think that it’s inevitable that Manchester United will sign at least one Holland star over the next month and Daley Blind would be a fantastic addition to the club. He’s a natural athlete with a wand of alert foot and can play in several different positions – a fact which will suit Louis van Gaal down to the ground.

It was the wingback’s cross that led to Robin van Persie’s sensational headed goal against Spain at The World Cup, as Bind gave one fautless performance after the next down that left side in Brazil.

We actually believe that both he and Luke Shaw could play in the same side and dovetail nicely, should LvG choose to employ a full back and a winger in any or many games. Blind has a great engine and the sort of superb delivery that has been sorely lacking from wide areas for the last few years.

Manchester United may not be the only suitor for the brilliant Dutchman’s signature in this transfer window, but LvG is probably in the box seat to sign him, given the rapport that he had with many of his players at The World Cup.

In short, it would be a super buy. Let’s see some highlights. Manchester United fans: keen?
