Arsenal are reportedly edging towards concluding a deal for German midfielder Sami Khedira. The Gunners have already agreed a £23 million fee with Real Madrid and just need to sort out personal terms according to The Metro

Arsenal set to beat Chelsea to Real Madrid’s Sami Khedira as Gunners ‘agree £23m fee’.

Khedira is widely considered one of the best defensive midfielders in the world. The 27 year old has played over 140 games for the Real Madrid since he joined in 2010, though this past season has been hampered by injury.

He joined the Spanish giants from Stuttgart where he made 98 league appearances in 4 years, scoring 14 goals.

The German is also an experienced international, with 51 full senior caps to his name. He was part of the squad that won the 2014 World Cup in Brazil on Sunday, though he missed out on playing in the final due to a thigh strain.

Arsenal reportedly face competition to land the player from Chelsea. Jose Mourinho has already managed Khedira from his time in charge at the Bernabeu and it is thought he is keen to bring him to Stamford Bridge.

Arsenal have been unusually busy early in the transfer window. They have already brought in Chilean forward Alexis Sanchez from Barcelona and are expected to complete a deal for Newcastle right back Mathieu Debuchy in the coming days.

A move for controversial striker Mario Balotelli has also been mooted, though it now appears that there has been no official bid mad by Arsene Wenger.

Khedira joining Arsenal would mean that The Gunners would have four German World Cup winners in their squads, with the defensive midfielder joining Lukas Podolski, Per Metersacker and Mesut Ozil.

He would also fix one of the problems highlighted by pundits and fans over the past few seasons, with the squad being seen as lacking a specialised defensive minded midfielder.

I’m happy with this transfer season. It has been a decade arsene purchase high quality players. If this is true Khedira’s injury problems won’t be a big deal for arsenal when we have youth that can perform in that area. Sanchez Mathieu Khedira what a armoury to have, Loic Remy can be a insurance to scare every opponent where ever they are.

We have showed extra ordinary intent to compete at the highest level this season and Khedira would be a massive addition to the squad. I hope we agreed his personal term and this deal sailed through. Gunners 4 life
