Manchester United have been linked with a potential transfer for Swiss left back Ricardo Rodriguez. Reports in Germany indicate that the club have made an offer for the 21 year according to The Metro. They say:

Manchester United ‘make concrete Ricardo Rodriguez transfer offer’

This is despite the fact that they have recently completed deal for Luke Shaw and Patrice Evra has just signed a one year extension.

Solid performances in the Bundesliga and for his country have made the Swiss defender a target for a number larger clubs, according to the report, though none are believed to have so far made a firm offer.

Rodriguez was born into a cosmopolitan family, with his father being Spanish and his mother Chilean. He joined FC Zurich’s youth academy before breaking into the senior squad in 2010,

The 21 year old then moved to VfL Wolfsburg in 2012 where he became a favourite of manager Felix Magath. Rodriguez went onto to play a large portion of games for the German outfit. He has since progressed steadily, becoming an important player for Wolfsburg, where he has now made 70 appearances.

Having played for Switzerland at all youth levels, including at the 2012 Olympic Games, he made his senior international debut in 2011. The left back was also selected for as part of the Swiss national team for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, where he put in a number of impressive performances before his side was knocked out.

Manchester United are currently undergoing an overhaul. New manager Louis van Gaal is expected to make a number of changes to the playing squad for the upcoming season after a disappointing year.

The new regime may also allow younger players to stake a claim in the squad, along with new transfers such as Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera. Manchester United are likely to face an increasingly busy summer as they try to challenge for The Premier League title once more.

Let’s see some Rodriguez highlights. Manchester United fans: could this move mean that Patrice Evra is off?

Good player…..Funny how none of us question Van Gaal’s judgement…….With 4 new Dutch players (at least) 1 new Belgium from Arsenal….Herrera, Shaw,Carvalho?, Vidal?,Di Maria?(A United Fan),Hummels, and a great bunch of under 21’s who need to move up……the following will be gone soon, Smalling, Jones, Fellaini, Cleverley, Nani, Young, Valencia, Fletcher, Carrick, Chico, Wellbeck,Kagawa, Zaha, Powell and possibly Raphael and ROONEY?….Giggs, Vida and Rio are already gone…..Evra to go and Buttner gone……I am looking forward to 2014/15……..I am not far wrong here!
