Barcelona are understood to want to bring in French centre back Jeremy Mathieu.

The player has apparently made it clear to the Valencia board that he wants to leave and that Barcelona are looking to drive down his price before making an offer, according to Marca.

The 29 year old joined Valencia in 2009 where he has played a key role in the team, making over 120 appearances in all competitions. Before joining the Spanish club, Mathieu also had spells at French side Toulouse and Sochaux where he spent his youth career. He has also had 2 international caps for France, although he is not involved in the squad for the 2014 Brazil World Cup.

Barcelona are faced with a huge rebuilding task this season. New manager Luis Enrique has made it clear he intends to stamp his own mark on the Catalan side, suggesting that he is planning on shipping out some players and bringing others in.

This has been further illustrated by the departure of Cesc Fabregas to Chelsea.

Meanwhile Barcelona are set to lose three of their most important players this summer. Xavi, Carlos Puyol and Victor Valdes are all moving on to new clubs in the coming weeks.

Not only have each of these players been hugely influential but they have also each acted as captain for the club over the last few years.

Mathieu is just one of several players to be linked with Barcelona recently. Reports have suggested that they are willing to do a swap deal with Juventus for Fernando Llorente involving Alexis Sanchez.

While reports today seem to point out that they are looking to bring prolific striker Luis Suarez to the Nou Camp.

What is certain is that this is sure to be a busy transfer window for the Spanish side.
