Everton: This transfer makes more sense than you might think

Still got it

We know that a lot of you Everton fans will naturally be against the idea of signing an old timer.

It seems that many of the wisest managers buy young players who can improve over time and have a sell-on value to keep the economics of the club healthy.

But the best teams usually have a blend of youth and experience. This was illustrated well with Gareth Barry last season. Everton were a much better side with him in it.

Samuel Eto’o has been linked to Everton over the last day or so and although many Everton fans may scoff at the idea of bringing in a striker well into his 30s we think it could be a good move for the club.

At 33 he was the top scorer out of the strikers at Chelsea last season and he has lost little of his mobility. He’s still sharp around the box, athletic and clearly retains the hunger to succeed at the top level. Eto’o is a consummate pro who looks after himself.

Everton fans should be able to take a good look at him at The World Cup this summer (providing the Cameroon national team finally boards their plane) and we think that he’s definitely got another year in The Premier League at least.

If Everton could do a deal which didn’t include the ridiculously high wages that Eto’o has become accustomed to over his career, this could be an excellent short-term signing for an Everton side which is pretty light up top.

Let’s see some of his best bits. Everton fans: would you take him or would you scoff?
