With the rumour mills going into overdrive about Chelsea potentially making a move for Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas the West London club are hoping to conclude a deal for another top target, Diego Costa, before the World Cup begins next week.
The Daily Mail reported Tuesday evening:
Jose Mourinho’s move for the Spain international is virtually complete, but has been held up by the striker’s hamstring injury.
That troubled hamstring has so far put paid to the medical which would conclude a transfer which will be for a transfer fee in the region of £35m. But the report goes on to say that Chelsea still hope to have the deal done and dusted by the time Brazil kick off the tournament next Thursday evening.
The soon to be Chelsea man had a sensational season in La Liga scoring 36 times in 52 outings for Atletico Madrid in all competitions. His season was cruelly brought to an end in the final weeks of the season as he pulled a hamstring which ultimately limited him to a handful of minutes in The Champions League final – denying Atletico Madrid of their most dangerous attacking weapon in a game that they ultimately lost in extra time.
The Chelsea target will hope that he can end the campaign on a high with a full recovery in time for Spain’s assault on a second consecutive World Cup title.
