Arsenal tracking another young prodigy

The Mirror has reported that Arsenal are interested 21 year old forward Jean-Christophe Bahebeck. The player has recently impressed in youth competitions for France, especially the Toulon Tournament where he finished top scorer.

The youngster currently plays for Paris St Germain but the French club are apparently willing to let him leave for free, as long as they get 50% of any future transfer fee, according to The Daily Mail. He joined PSG from Persan in 2007 and has since had loan spells at both Troyes and Valenciennes FC.

His agent has talked about the value for money offered by his client, quoted by the same source as saying:

‘When you consider the prices being asked for English players of similar level it’s a very good deal. We have a lot of interest from English clubs.’
The absence of both Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain for large parts of last season due to injury led to a serious lack of pace in Arsenal’s attack. With interest in Julian Draxler fading, The Gunners are still in need of pack up for out and out wingers.

The speedy Baheback would provide this in spades, allowing Arsene Wenger’s side to stretch defences and allow more space for talented midfielders such as Jack Wilshere and Mesut Ozil to operate.

The fact that the Frenchman can also play as a sole striker will please fans who want some backup for Olivier Giroud. The forward was Arsenal’s only established front man last season and playing a large number of games consecutively seemed to affect his fitness throughout the season.

However, fans will also be hoping to see a more experienced striker joining Arsenal this summer in addition to, or instead of, Baheback. By Nathan Gibson
