Chelsea look to spend

You would have thought that Chelsea will spend most of their transfer kitty this summer on strikers.

All three senior front men could well leave Chelsea and Jose Morinho seems to be clearing the decks with the £90 million revenue which he will likely receive from the Juan Mata and David Luiz deals.

That should put Chelsea a decent position in terms of fair play and they will have a decent wedge to spend on forwards in this window.

But midfield has also been mooted as an area that Chelsea want to strengthen and the club have been linked of late with 3 stellar midfield talents – Koke, Paulinho and Paul Pogba of Juventus.

All superb players but, for our money, Pogba seems to be the pick of the lot. Koke has been sensational this season too but, at 21 years of age, Pogba may just edge Koke into 2nd place in terms of value to the midfield. He’s a dominant, athletic, box-to-box player who is also a really dangerous goal threat from any distance. Quite why Manchester United let him go is anyone’s guess.

Juventus are back at the top of the pile in Italy but the English league is still far more financially powerful and the Frenchman could well be tempted by a return to The Premier League with Chelsea.

SkyBet thinks that a return to France with PSG might be on the cards (at 7/4). But Chelsea are Premier League favourites for the signature of the brilliant young playmaker at odds of 4/1. While the French outfit are clearly cash rich, even compared to Chelsea, you would imagine that any real competitor would fancy a move to one of the toughest and most watched leagues on the globe. It could only improve him as a player.

Indeed the French league still has some way to go before it can truly be classified as a European heavyweight. So the odds of a move to Chelsea look pretty good.

If Chelsea were to add this lad and a couple of strikers it’s hard to see any team finding them easy opponents next season.

Let’s see him in action. Chelsea fans: would Pogba be worth the tens of millions required to bring him in?
