Manchester United: Shock transfer link

Surprise link

By recent standards it was an unusually and exceedingly satisfying night for Manchester United on Wednesday. But David Moyes will know that this one result doesn’t get him off the hook – not a bit of it mate. His job as Manchester United manager is still very much on the line.

A humbling at home against Manchester City seems less likely now the team has shown some form at last but, if another big defeat does follow a big win, the pressure will be back with bang.

But, assuming for a moment that David Moyes does remain at Manchester United beyond May, he’s going to be off his chops on Red Bull working 24/7 on transfers to keep the wolf from the door.

Manchester United have been watching Southampton’s Luke Shaw with very covetous eyes for the last year. But, in something of a shock, The Daily Mail today reckons that Manchester United fancy another Saints star – Dejan Lovren.

The Croatian has impressed for the Saints this season, making 23 appearances for Mauricio Pochettino’s impressive side.
And his displays have not gone unnoticed by United spies whilst making their regular checks on Lovren’s team-mate Luke Shaw.

The 24 year old Croatian has scored twice 2 goals for Southampton this season and has become ever more comfortable as a Premier League centre back since arriving from Lyon last year. He has a freakishly similar international record with Croatia of 23 appearances and 2 goals scored.

He’s quick, mobile and assertive – elements sorely missing from the Manchester United defence at times in this chaotic campaign.

While we still believe that there is plenty of quality in the defensive areas of the Manchester United squad they will most likely look to add at least one centre back this summer. Lovren would certainly be a cheaper alternative to players such as Eliaquim Mangala, who has oft been mooted as a potential successor to the departing Nemanja Vidic.

Let’s see him in action. Manchester United fans – are you looking for Lovren?
