What the Papers Say about Liverpool’s potential new signing

Liverpool want another forward

Watching Liverpool at the weekend with two of my closest chums, both of whom support The Reds, was a joy to behold.

Essentially they both look like kids in sweetshops. Sweetshops with an incredible array of treats. But kids in sweetshops who aren’t sure whether they are allowed to eat the treats or just look at them.

What I am trying to say, with that exceedingly clever analogy, is that Liverpool have the look of champions. In fact, they look more like champions than any other team right now. But Liverpool fans can’t quite believe that it’s going to happen.

They do, of course, have to get past Manchester City. But a 3-0 win at a team like Southampton tells you all you need to know about Liverpool’s form – they are on fire and looking completely fluid in their play.

Whatever happens with the title race, it looks as if Liverpool will be competing in The Champions League next season. For this they will require a deeper squad.

One player who has been linked by various sports papers over the last 24 hours is young Frenchman Alexandre Lacazette. The 22 year old Lyon striker has been drawing admiring glances from Arsenal and Tottenham but Liverpool are said to be most serious about a signature.

The Guardian opines:

Liverpool have decided that their really good strikers aren’t good enough and are said to be tracking Lyon forward Alexandre Lacazette. With the French club in a bit of financial bother, £10m is said to be enough to tempt Lyon to sell the 22-year-old, who has scored 14 goals this season, and who has also attracted attention from Arsenal and Tottenham.

The Metro says:

Liverpool are ready to make a £10million bid for Lyon forward Alexandre Lacazette at the end of the season.

As Metro reported last week, the Reds have been tracking highly-rated Lacazette for most of the campaign, with the France international enjoying his best season yet in front of goal.

And after several promising scouting missions, manager Brendan Rodgers is set to put his money where his mouth is with a cash offer in the summer.

Let’s see the lad in action. Liverpool fans, does this guy fit the bill?
