Manchester United: Sensational £70m Transfer Deal Mooted

It’s safe to say that the speculation relating to Manchester United’s summer spend has already started. Did it ever actually end? No is the probable answer. It’s perennial.

But top managers would be mad to wait until the summer to devise their wish lists. With a World Cup also occurring this summer, we all know that transfer fees can go through the roof, on the back of a target giving a great performance in Brazil. Even a top cameo can add a nought.

Competition for the best players is also rife so Manchester United will want to get two or three big deals done in May/early June and then avoid the desperate late summer scramble. Three top midfielders have been linked to summer moves today, in what would amount to a reported £70m spend.

Toni Kroos – I think he is now comfortably the number one choice for the Manchester United midfield amongst the fans. The masterclass he gave against Arsenal showed his myriad talents. The Metro today reports that Manchester United are prepared to treble his wages in the summer.

Manchester United are reportedly willing to pay Toni Kroos £250,000 per week to tempt the midfielder away from Bayern Munich

Bayern’s willingness to do business, though, is unclear, although it’s thought a fee of around £30million would suffice for the 24-year-old, who reminded Europe’s elite of his quality with a classy performance and fine goal in his side’s 2-0 Champions League victory at Arsenal last week.

Ilkay Gundogan – His name has surfaced yet again. But for good reason. He’s exactly the sort of industrious, technically adroit, box-to-box midfielder that Manchester United need. The same report says:

Borussia Dortmund playmaker Ikay Gundogan also continues to be linked with a summer Old Trafford switch, and, if reports in Spain are to believed, Moyes wants to add some steel to his midfield too.

The Daily Star said of this move yesterday:

MANCHESTER UNITED are sure they have won the £25million battle for Germany’s Ilkay Gundogan.

The ever dependable Manchester Evening News and The Metro also report on the possible interest a more surprising target – Alex Song:

Catalan paper Sport says United are chasing Barca’s former Arsenal midfielder Alex Song.

The 26-year-old left the Gunners for £15million in 2012 but is struggling for game time under current Barca boss Tata Martino and is open to a return to the Premier League.

TOTAL PROJECTED SPEND – £70M

Manchester United fans – would these three do the job for Manchester United?
