Spending not over for Chelsea – report

Spending by no means over for Chelsea

Chelsea quietly went about their business in the January window – as quietly as a club the size of Chelsea can be anyway – and ended up being more active than most in the market. If you had listened to Jose at the turn of the year you wouldn’t have expected much movement.

But it turned out to be a mega month for The Blues as they released Juan Mata and made four major signings to bolster their tilt at the title. They will hope that Mohammed Salah, Kurt Zouma, Nemanja Matic and Bertrand Traore will represent the successful future of the club as Chelsea return to the Mourinho way of buying human bulldozers.

But the spending doesn’t look to be stopping there. Chelsea have reportedly had scouts out since the end of the transfer window looking at more players.

The Metro today suggests that more defenders are on the menu at The Bridge. They say:

Chelsea have ramped up their interest in Sheffield United defender Harry Maguire after senior scouts watched him in action against Fulham.

The Blues have been tracking 20-year-old Maguire for months, with the centre back, dubbed ‘the new John Terry’ for his commanding performances, turning in a string of notable performances in defence.

The strapping 20 year old centre back, who checks in at 6ft 4in, has already become a mainstay in the Sheffield United side since he joined the club in 2011. He has represented his current side 119 times scoring a really creditable nine goals in the process.

His potential has been further embellished by a debut for the England under 21 national side in 2012.

Let’s see a snippet of the lad in action. Chelsea fans, are we looking at the next John Terry or just another youngster with potential who will be loaned out for several years?
