More big news expected for United

This really could turn out to be a super week for Manchester United fans. After all the dreadful results – not to mention the even more worrying performance levels – that they have witnessed so far this season there is a great reason for optimism with the potential signing of Juan Mata.

Nails are being bitten around the North West as the deal hasn’t been completed yet. The Telegraph this morning reported that the deal was being held up by Chelsea until they signed a replacement – thought to be Mohammed Salah.

But the BBC last night opined that Mata was expected for his Manchester United medical today.

In other interesting news Michael Owen tweeted this morning that the Juan Mata deal might not be the only good news that Manchester United fans get over the next few days.

He tweeted this morning:

So, Juan Mata is on the verge of a move to United. A little dickie bird tells me there is more good news for United fans coming soon! #tease 7:34 AM – 24 Jan 2014

This could be news of another major transfer. But we think it has to do with Wayne Rooney. Owen and Rooney are clearly very good friends and news has broken over the last few days that Rooney’s agent has been at Old Trafford to discuss a new deal – a deal which, in all likelihood, will keep the player at Manchester United for the rest of his career.

It could well be that Owen knows about another new arrival at the club but we think that he is referring to Wayne Rooney. And what fantastic news it would be for the club if they did manage to tie the Englishmen down to a new contract. After all the speculation about him leaving the club, for many, this would be an even greater boost than the news of the Spaniard signing.

Rooney is Manchester United’s talisman and we think that without him Manchester United really will be in trouble. But if they can keep him on board for the next few years – possibly the best of his career – then the future all of a sudden looks extremely bright Old Trafford.
