With all the noise being made about Juan Mata coming to Manchester United we have almost forgotten that there are several holes in the current team.

We believe that Juan Mata should be the heartbeat of the United team and be played in the centre of midfield alongside Micheal Carrick. But many pundits believe that Mata is more of a forward. And with Michael Carrick now 32 Manchester United will certainly need to further reinforce this area regardless of Mata’s eventual position.

The Telegraph has reported that Manchester United boss David Moyes will travel to Germany this weekend to scout another brilliant young midfielder:

Moyes is planning a personal scouting mission this week to watch Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Patrick Hermann against European Champions Bayern Munich.

The 22 year old is considered as a cheaper version of Marco Reus – a goal-scoring middle man who has been credited with a vital role in his team’s return to prominence and tilt at the title this season.

At 22 he’s scored a decent 19 in 113 matches for his club and generally adds energy and coherence to the midfield. He hasn’t yet played the senior German international side but there’s no shame in that considering the quality of the squad. He has represented his country at every other level however.

The player himself responded to rumours about Manchester United by saying:

“It, of course, honours me to be linked to such a club,” Herrmann told Rheinische Post on Tuesday.

“But a winter transfer is absolutely no issue for me. I feel fine here at Borussia, we are playing an outstanding season.”

The winger, however, did not rule out a future move away from the Bundesliga. “You should never say never,” he said. “But the Bundesliga is one of the strongest leagues in the world.”

So it’s fairly safe to assume that the player won’t be joining Manchester United in January. But that probably won’t stop the extremely hard-working David Moyes travelling to Germany anyway.

Let’s see the lad in action. Manchester United fans – does this guy boil your potatoes?
