Two more in the pipeline for Everton

Roberto Martinez continues to go about his business quietly and efficiently at Everton. While Everton’s old manager David Moyes struggles to get out of the starting blocks in the January window, Martinez has been busy negotiating deals for Aiden McGeady and, reportedly, another two talented footballers.

The Metro reports today on the news that Everton are in negotiations for the young striker Michy Batshuayi. The Standard Liege striker has been on fire this season with 15 goals in 22 games – albeit in a much lower quality league. Still the guy has pace and power and The Metro says that a deal could be close:

Everton have opened talks with Belgian club Standard Liege over a deal for marksman Michy Batshuayi.

And Roberto Martinez has now opened talks with Liege president Roland Duchatelet, in a bid to sign the 20-year-old striker who is enjoying a run of superb form.

Belgium daily Het Laatste Nieuws says Michy’s parents have confirmed that the Toffees have been in contact about their son.

The other well reported deal pertains to Lacina Traore who now appears certain to join Everton in January. The Everton manager spoke warmly about the player in an interview reported by the BBC:

“Lacina is a player I really like. He is someone who would fit in really well in the role we want,” Martinez added.

This guy is absolutely massive. He stands at 6ft 8in but has scored goals wherever he’s been in his nomadic career. 14 in 44 games for Cluj, 13 in 29 for Anzhi fallalalalala and four goals in seven outings for The Ivory coast.

Wikipedia says of the player:

nicknamed the “Gentle Giant”, due to his 6 ft 8in frame,[2] Traoré is among the tallest professional footballers.

Obviously Traore will hope to become famous at Everton for other reasons rather than just his height. Actually, as you will see from the video, he’s got really good feet for one so lofty.

With these two potential signings the Everton boss is clearly trying to rejuvenate his rather thin strike force.

Let’s have a look at The Gentle Giant in action. Everton fans – are these two good enough quality to make a difference to the Everton first-team, or are they simply young hopefuls who will play a few games before The Toffees make a major striker signing in the summer? Or Both? Or neither? YOU DECIDE!
