Another deal for Chelsea

Typically, Chelsea are going about their transfer business quietly and efficiently. Jose Mourinho deflected questions about signings at the start of January but has moved swiftly to sign defensive midfielder and Chelsea old boy Nemanja Matic for more than £20 million.

He will add steel to an ageing midfield. And Despite Samuel Eto’o scoring a hat-trick yesterday at Manchester United, Chelsea will probably look to add strikers now or in the summer. We believe that Chelsea really need to add a top forward in the winter window but it remains to be seen whether they will concentrate on this area now or wait until the end of the season.

But most of the transfer speculation since the Matic deal has been about the potential signing of a defender.

The player says he loves Chelsea and wants to play there. Several reports have today suggested that a deal is close. The Guardian says:

Chelsea are about to sign Saint Etienne centre-back Kurt Zouma for £11m, at which point the 19-year-old will probably be shipped out on loan to their Dutch feeder club Vitesse Arnhem.

As most of you know by now, Zouma is currently serving a ten game ban in the French league for an horrendous challenge on Sochaux’s Thomas Gerbert. But the 19 year old is already a top player in Ligue 1 with 51 performances for his current club, St.Etienne, despite his tender years. Is also bagged four goals from set pieces during that time to demonstrate that he’s a defender with the potential to get is name on the scoresheet.

Let’s take a look at the player in action. Chelsea fans do you think that Mourinho is right to be investing in youngsters at this stage or should he be looking at top strikers in order to seriously challenge Manchester City for the title this season?

Let’s have your thoughts. Meantime here is Zouma in action. CLICK FOR ZOUMA
