Good enough to wow the United faithful?

Manchester United need to add players urgently – on that point most of us agree. But, the question of who United actually buy, is the subject of massive speculation.

David Moyes is keeping his cards close to his chest and has told the press that he will struggle to get his top targets in January. But he may find that task even harder in the summer if Manchester United fail to qualify for The Champions League.

In the latest news cycles Manchester United have again been linked with more high profile players who could potentially make the difference at Old Trafford this season.

Rumours have been flying around today, like a wasp on Red Bull, about Manchester United making an attempt to sign Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio.

The Daily Express goes as far as to say that Manchester United have actually tabled a £20m bid for the 27 year old Italian international. The Express Says:

MANCHESTER UNITED have made a £20m offer for Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio, who has also been linked with Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea.

United are keen to add an extra midfielder in January in a bid to halt their faltering form and the experienced Italian international fits the bill.

Juventus were knocked out of the Champions League in December and reports suggested that Marchisio might be sacrificed to help offset the resulting financial shortfall, estimated at £17m.

Marchisio has played 41 times for his country scoring twice. He’s also turned 187 times for Juventus, bagging 25 goals in the process.

While Marchisio is a technically adept and composed all rounder in the engine room we don’t think that he would be worth getting too excited about. At 24m Euros Manchester United would be getting a seasoned, if rather conventional, player who wouldn’t necessarily add the invention required to re-ingnite this team.

Let’s have a look at the guy in action. Manchester United fans – is Marchisio the sort of player to change the club’s immediate fortunes, or another underwhelming midfielder in the Fellaini mould?

We watch Serie A here every week. Marchisio is not the answer – at Juve Pogba, Pirlo and Vidal run the show. He will be just another addition to the squad. NO – we have to go for the BEST cos UTD should be the BEST.
