Manchester United now shock favourites to sign La Liga legend

This would be a real United shocker

Ok this one seems like a real long shot. You don’t even need a whole hand to count the number of players that have played for both Manchester United and Liverpool.

But, such is the need for Manchester United to reinforce their midfield for the second half of the season, that it may just happen.

Real Madrid have yet to tie their 32 year old pass master Xabi Alonso down to a new deal and, with his contract up in the summer, he is now free to talk to other clubs about a move.

The chances are that Alonso will stay in Madrid for another season, with coach Carlo Ancelotti expressing a desire to keep him, in his latest interview. Ancelotti told reporters:

About Xabi Alonso we believe that in the end we will find a solution and the club and the player will reach an agreement.

Having played a whopping 109 times for Spain, during their golden era, it’s safe to assume that this is a player from the very top drawer. Never a prolific goalscorer but a player who controls the tempo of entire matches with his incredible precision and range of passing. He’s the sort of player who can dominate a game almost at a canter. The first few yards are in that remarkable football brain.

We still feel that if the player returns to England it would be with his former club Liverpool. He had a great time there and the fans loved him. Nevertheless, rather surprisingly, bookmaker SkyBet has Manchester United down as favourites for his signature should he leave Real Madrid this winter. Odds of 5/1 suggest that the story might have legs.

You really don’t know anything about man united. Backs against the wall they come out fighting. I don’t want alonso. We should buy quality that’s not on their last legs.

I fully agree about the quality needed. My only concern is that a complete unknown has taken over one of the biggest clubs in the world and seems to be languising in a spot he is quite comfortable with, given his achievements at Everton. So why wud any quality player want to join a team that is being lead by a wet fat who has achieved nothing in his professional coaching career?

Alonso is too old, how can u go in for a player who is 32.he cannot even play for three years.there are more young quality and skillfull players around…..some are even to play for the team!so i edge moyes to go in for them !!!

I’m tired of the Rooney saga!!!if Moyes have about £220 million to buy players its best he sell Rooney then buy a striker of good quality,I wouldn’t mind him buying Alonso but we need to consider his age!NO more 17year olds we need quality with experience!!!2 central midfielders,a left-back,left-winger,centre-back & a STRIKER.
