After the highly disappointing developments with Lucas Moura over the last 24 hours, Manchester United fans will welcome the latest news in the Robin Van Persie chase.
The Manchester Evening News reports today that Robin Van Persie could fly into the North West to complete a much mooted deal that will bring him to Manchester United ‘as early as tonight’.
The Lucas Moura deal seemed all but done over the weekend but, despite already having their full quota of overseas stars in their squad, Qatari owned PSG have made a last minute bid which has blown Manchester United out of the water. PSG have offered more money for the player and he will only come to United now if he stresses that Old Trafford is his preferred destination. But he is quoted today by Sky Sports as saying that he is excited by the prospect of going to Paris.
“I’ll stay at Sao Paulo until the end of the year. Things are well underway.”
“If it happens in January, I’ll be able to do that for Sao Paulo.”
“I’m focused on the national team. I can only say something after the Olympics. It’s well underway, but not done.”
“I talked to Thiago Silva and Leonardo, they said many good things about the club, the project they are implementing there.”
So, mixed news for Manchester United fans. The Van Persie deal would be a major boost for the club but speculation will continue about the need for another top draw midfielder before the window closes.
