Another Tottenham signing!

The club’s official website have confirmed that Ajax captain Jan Vertonghen has all but completed his move to Spurs, subject to a medical. The classy, domineering centre back is exactly the sort of consistent and big character that Tottenham have lacked in defence and he is clearly overjoyed to be making the move. soccersweep has been following this transfer for months and is only surprised that other Premier League clubs haven’t made official moves for the player.

Defenders of this pedigree don’t come along too often, let alone become available. Vertonghen defends for his life, controls the back 5 brilliantly and marauds up the park to assist the offence at prudent moments in a game. We think he is going to be one of the buys of the season.

The 22 year old midfielder Gylfi Sigurðsson also arrived last week but one feels that there are more signatures to come, particularly as Tottenham are likely to lose Luka Modric to Real Madrid imminently -Joao Moutinho has been touted as a possible successor.

Meanwhile Spurs’ striking department is far from overloaded. With the Adebayor future up in the air and Roman Pavlyuchenko gone, Andre Villas Boas will make striking reinforcements a priority now.

Spurs have already stolen a march in the transfer market but the signings don’t look like stopping here. Spurs fans are in for an exciting pre-season.
