Big deals

Tottenham have yet to make massive inroads in the transfer market this summer but you do feel that there will still be a big splurge before September.

The new Tottenham manager obviously needed time to assess the strengths and weaknesses of his squad but he has apparently done so now and reports suggest that he’s about to make a move for two Manchester United players:

Various reports suggest that Pochettino is after Javier Hernandez and Marouane Fellaini to strengthen the spine of his side.

Hernandez: an player who The Guardian likens to Jermaine Defoe. We would say that he is very different from Defoe. He’s got not shooting prowess from outside the box. Instead, he likes to drift around the penalty area and feed on scraps. He’s got quick wits, great spacial awareness and never stops running. His pace is also another obvious attribute. In terms of weaknesses, his first touch can sometimes let him down and he hasn’t got great power, so you will seldom see him bang in a goal from 25 yards. But he would represent an excellent addition to a Tottenham front line which needs help.

Marouane Fellaini: Had a shocking year at Manchester United but still apparently has several major suitors out there. He surely can’t have a as bad a year as he did last time and perhaps needs a change of scenery to kick-start his career.

But a recent training ground injury may curtail any move for the hapless Belgian.

Let’s take a look at the lad in action. Tottenham fans: keen on either or both?

There is no way Pochetino has any interest in Fellani. Total made up nonsense.

Why would Spurs want another sluggish Belgian midfielder?

Be even worse if we signed hernandez, we got rid of dos santos who is miles better.
No need for squad players, we need the quality 1st teamers.

Baloney, isn’t it? And it shows a Manchester United sensibility—the need to sell these players—rather than a Tottenham one. Spurs being a club with many good midfielders and no shortage of firepower upfront. What is fascinating though is the way that a number of websites and blogs have happily echoed this story and passed it on, indicating there must be quite a few of these sites and blogs concerned primarily with the needs, dreams and longings of Manchester United.
